Local Woman Desperately Seeks Car Detailer, Ignores 47 Available Car Detailers

GRAND HAVEN, MI — A Grand Haven woman has issued an urgent appeal to the local Facebook community in search of someone who can detail her vehicle, despite an estimated 47 posts from people offering precisely that service appearing in the same group over the past six days.

“Looking for recommendations for someone who details cars!!!” wrote the woman, launching what authorities are describing as the largest unnecessary search operation in recent Ottawa County history.

Within minutes, the post attracted 36 comments, including 14 recommendations, nine business owners offering their services, four people tagging their husbands and one woman who suggested a completely unrelated cleaning company.

Three of the recommended detailers had already advertised in the group that morning.

One had posted 11 minutes earlier.

The Ledger’s Department of Digital Redundancy has opened an investigation into why local residents continue searching for services through new Facebook posts rather than consulting the hundreds of identical posts already available.

“We’re dealing with an extraordinary situation,” said department director Richard Ellsworth. “At any given moment, there are approximately 19 people offering to detail your car, 12 people looking for someone to detail their car, and absolutely no evidence that these two groups have ever encountered one another.”

Investigators believe the issue may stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of Facebook’s search function, which has reportedly been mistaken for a decorative feature.

Additional evidence suggests that many residents believe recommendations only become valid when delivered personally in response to their own post.

“It’s not enough that somebody recommended a car detailer yesterday,” Ellsworth explained. “That recommendation was for somebody else’s car. This is an entirely different car.”

The phenomenon extends well beyond automotive services.

According to the Ledger’s research, Grand Haven-area Facebook groups currently contain enough recommendations for house cleaners, lawn care providers, roofers, driveway sealers and people who haul away junk to construct a fully functioning regional economy.

Unfortunately, none of those recommendations can be accessed until someone asks for them again.

Meanwhile, local business owners have reportedly begun abandoning traditional advertising in favor of sitting beside their phones, waiting for the next person to announce an urgent need for the exact service they provide.

One fictional entrepreneur, who operates a mobile detailing business, reportedly spent $600 advertising his services before discovering that simply commenting “PM sent” beneath every request produced better results.

The Ledger attempted to determine whether the woman ultimately selected a detailer.

At press time, she had received 53 recommendations, 17 private messages and an unsolicited offer to pressure-wash her driveway.

She was reportedly still looking.

A second resident has since posted asking if anyone knows a good car detailer.

The investigation continues.
